Facts About New York City

New York City is maybe the most exhilarating and intense city in the world. If you're from Tokyo, London or Rome, you might have problems accepting this fact, but in the very least New York City is one of the top three best cities in the world. Over 40 million tourists flock to the big apple each year. New York City contains so many different personalities and culture, and this melting pot makes it an extremely interesting place to visit and to live. A survey of New Yorkers produced these interesting observations.


* 70% of New Yorkers think the city is a great place to live, with 68% of New Yorkers thinking that New York has improved significantly in the last few years.
* 60% of New Yorkers believe that they are in a safe environment, with good police protection.
* 75% of New Yorkers estimate that they are in good health and the same amount have finished school.
* 28% of New Yorkers have completed college.
* 17% of New Yorkers families have a worth (assets, etc) of $100,000 or more but 41% reported they have no net worth. 25% of New Yorkers own their own home. New York is famous for being a city of renters.
* On the down side, 31% of New Yorkers are living below the poverty line. As with soceity , a huge gulf exists between the rich and poor. 6% of New Yorkers have incomes that are at least 10 times below the poverty line. And 2% of New Yorkers have had their gas or electric turned off. 7% have been hungry because they can’t afford food.
* 20% of New Yorkers are living in poor quality housing, with 14% living in overcrowded accomodation.
* 33% of New Yorkers have one or more family members that don’t have health insurance.
* But, 80% of New Yorkers feel safe in their Neighborhood, which is an upturn on years gone by.
